Project Krsi Vana

Project Krisi Vana is Samashti Foundation’s flagship initiative focused on promoting agroforestry and sustainable soil management practices among farming communities. Agroforestry is a powerful land-use system where trees and shrubs are integrated with crops and farmland, creating a balanced and resilient ecosystem similar to natural environments. This approach not only enhances farm productivity but also strengthens ecological sustainability by improving biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation.

In regions like Karnataka, where agriculture faces increasing challenges due to climate variability, soil degradation, and declining productivity, agroforestry offers a practical and long-term solution. By introducing trees such as fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal varieties alongside traditional crops, farmers can diversify their income sources while improving the overall health of their land. These systems help reduce soil erosion, enhance carbon sequestration, and create microclimates that support better crop growth.

Project Krisi Vana goes beyond plantation by integrating strong soil management practices, recognizing that healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture. Soil management involves practices that improve soil fertility, structure, and biological activity, enabling farmers to maintain productivity over the long term. The project emphasizes the importance of soil conservation, nutrient management, and regenerative agricultural techniques that reduce dependency on chemical inputs.

At the grassroots level, Samashti Foundation has been actively working with farmers in Hunasvadi village to implement these practices. Through partnerships with institutions like Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), farmers receive access to soil testing, expert guidance, and training sessions. These initiatives help farmers understand their soil health, identify nutrient deficiencies, and adopt appropriate measures to improve fertility and crop yields.

By combining agroforestry with scientific soil management and farmer capacity building, Project Krisi Vana aims to create a sustainable farming model that is economically viable, environmentally responsible, and socially beneficial. The project not only enhances farmer livelihoods but also contributes to climate change mitigation by improving soil carbon storage and promoting regenerative agricultural practices. Through this integrated approach, Krisi Vana is building resilient farming ecosystems that support both people and the planet.
