Water Management

Water Management & Harvesting

Water is a crucial input in agriculture and is of fundamental importance for human, environment and economy. Changing climate, rainfall patterns pose a threat to many more farmers, who risk losing water security and slipping back into the poverty trap. Hence , there is a need to strengthen the farmer water management technologies. Water management is the activity of planning, developing, distributing and managing the optimum use of water resources for rain-fed and irrigated lands.

Water Harvesting:

  • The technique to save water is called water harvesting. There are two ways of harvesting.

    • Rainwater harvesting: It is a method of collection and storage of rainwater into natural reservoirs or tanks or the infiltration of surface water into subsurface aquifers.

    • Groundwater harvesting: Groundwater harvesting is a method to save water placed under the ground to control the groundwater flow in an aquifer and to raise the water table.

Samashti's work:

“Without water we cease to exist”. Climate change is rapid. It’s time for us to give back to our society and assist farmers in teaching them modern conservation methods for sustainability. Samashti felt a need for this in many villages and decided to work on this aspect which can be a change maker for many farmers.

In this project we will be enabling farmers with borewell recharge, rainwater harvesting and farm pond recharge so that they will have water to cultivate throughout the year.
